Mauricio Pochettino is facing challenges to remain as Chelsea manager for the upcoming season, as a significant number of players are expected to leave the club without a farewell appearance.

The club has a bloated squad, and the need to raise extra cash by selling off loaned players and those deemed surplus to requirements is evident. Additionally, the departure of players taking up unnecessary space on the wage bill is expected. Several squad members are likely to have played their final match for Chelsea, including Ian Maatsen.

He was given only one Premier League start before joining Borussia Dortmund on loan, and his future with the club remains uncertain, with a possible permanent departure in the summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, is set to leave the club after an unsuccessful loan spell at Real Madrid, with Djordje Petrovic taking over as Chelsea’s new No 1. Armando Broja, who joined Fulham on loan but has had limited playing time, is also expected to receive offers this summer.

Malang Sarr, with minimal Premier League appearances over the past four years, is likely to seek a move for the benefit of his football career. Romelu Lukaku, who had an impressive season on loan at AS Roma, could potentially be auctioned off by Chelsea for a healthy fee. Additionally, Chelsea may need to consider options for Robert Sanchez, a goalkeeper serving as a back-up to Petrovic, as it may not be in the club’s financial interest to retain him.
