Lisandro Martinez, Man Utd star, reveals true colors in private conversation

The 21-year-old winger was poised for a breakout season after a successful loan spell at Sunderland last term, where he registered 14 goals and four assists in 42 appearances. However, a serious knee injury on United’s pre-season tour of the United States ruled Amad out of action for five months. He returned to first-team training in December and made a 36-minute cameo in United’s 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on December 30.

Since then, he has been an unused substitute in three games. In a recent interview, Amad cited Lisandro Martinez as a team-mate who helped him recover from the ill-timed injury, referring to Martinez as a fantastic person and a leader. The 26-year-old World Cup winner, Martinez, returned to action in January but suffered a new issue to the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

He is expected to miss another six to eight weeks after showcasing the quality that United had been missing during his brief spell back on the pitch. Martinez was brought to United from Ajax in 2022 for £57million. Despite his setback, his contribution to the team’s mentality and technical skills has been noted by his coach, Ten Hag.

Martinez will likely be among the top candidates to replace Bruno Fernandes as club captain, and Amad’s acknowledgment of Martinez’s influence further supports this possibility.
