Potential Mason Greenwood swap deal could see Ten Hag requesting three Barcelona players

Mason Greenwood is rumored to be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season, with Barcelona showing interest in signing him permanently. This presents an opportunity for Erik ten Hag to potentially secure one of Barcelona’s desirable stars. Greenwood has been performing well on loan at Getafe, contributing seven goals in 16 league games. However, Getafe does not have the financial means to afford his transfer fee or wages. United is determined to offload Greenwood, and reports suggest that Barcelona is now the front-runner for his signature. Greenwood himself reportedly wants the move, as it would give him a chance to play at the highest level again after being sent out on loan.

Due to their financial issues, Barcelona has had to be cautious with their spending in recent years. If negotiations take place, ten Hag should consider proposing a straight swap or a player-plus-cash arrangement involving one of Barcelona’s three stars. Manchester United has a keen interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, who is highly regarded and valued at £69 million. Convincing senior figures at Barcelona may require United to contribute additional cash to the deal.

Raphinha is another player with previous links to Manchester United, having performed well in the Premier League during his time at Leeds United. Manchester United could benefit from a high-quality winger, especially with Jadon Sancho on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Antony underperforming. Raphinha has been productive in La Liga this season, scoring three goals and assisting five, while Barcelona currently sits eight points behind league leaders Girona. Reports suggest that Raphinha is not completely indispensable at Barcelona, making him a potential candidate for a swap deal.

If acquiring Araujo or Raphinha proves difficult, Manchester United may have a better chance of including Andreas Christensen in the negotiations. Christensen, formerly of Chelsea, has caught the attention of both United and Newcastle. Barcelona has sufficient depth in central defense, while United is in need of reinforcements. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have both missed games due to injury this season, and Varane’s contract expires in June. Adding Christensen to the deal could provide the solution United is looking for.
