Manchester United’s Strategy to Generate £100 Million with Mason Greenwood Transfer Plan

Manchester United is reportedly planning to raise at least £100 million this summer by selling four academy players, including Mason Greenwood, as part of a broader clear-out to enhance the budget. The club’s new part-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is expected to make a splash in his first transfer window. Greenwood’s future, especially after his loan at Getafe, is a pressing matter to address as the INEOS era begins at Old Trafford.

Despite previous indications that Greenwood would not feature for the club again, his career shift elsewhere is now likely to be supported, with the aim of securing pure profit to boost the club’s budget and ease Financial Fair Play restrictions. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Valencia are reportedly interested in Greenwood. United’s new regime believes his sale could greatly benefit the club at the start of a rebuilding phase, following Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment.

The club also seeks to raise pure profit from selling Alvaro Fernandez and Hannibal Mejbri, who have joined Benfica and Sevilla on loan with buy options in their contracts. There are also potential targets being linked from the Saudi Pro League’s European investments, including players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, and Jadon Sancho.

Ratcliffe has pledged over £200 million on top of his £1.3 billion investment for a 29 per cent stake at the club, with player sales potentially adding another £200 million, at least. This substantial financial boost is expected to contribute to upgrading the team’s squad.
