His decision is seen as a huge boost to Everton, who are yet to make any January signings. Onana’s decision means that Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle will need to look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield for now. Former Arsenal player Mikael Silvestre expressed doubts about Onana’s readiness to improve the current squad and compete with top teams like Manchester City and Liverpool. Chelsea and Newcastle, however, are said to retain interest in Onana, with the latter potentially considering him as a replacement for the injured Joelinton.
