In October of that year, the former Reds defender advocated for the club to appoint Klopp following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. Liverpool were considering both Klopp and current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti at the time. Jamie Carragher compared Liverpool to Tottenham and supported Klopp to bring the club back to its former glory. Carragher believed Klopp had more to prove and the energy and drive to get Liverpool back to a top-four position.
Few would argue against the idea that Klopp has been successful, not only as a manager but also in uniting the fan base and embracing the club’s ethos. Carragher had voiced concerns about the internal politics at the club and likened Liverpool to Tottenham, citing their lack of major trophies in the past decade. Klopp initially struggled to end the trophy drought but eventually led Liverpool to victory in the Champions League and the English Premier League after 30 years. Despite the success, celebrations were limited due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Since then, Liverpool has also won the League and FA Cup, European Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
