The situation with Marcus Rashford goes as follows: On Friday, Ten Hag revealed that the England international had missed training due to being sick. It was reported that Rashford had gone to Northern Ireland to meet with his former teammate on Wednesday, and later images surfaced of him supposedly partying in a Belfast nightclub on Thursday.
United claimed that the pictures were taken on Wednesday night and that the squad had a scheduled day off the next morning, but The Athletic reported they were actually taken on Thursday night. Witnesses allegedly saw Rashford partying on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Rashford was not selected for United’s FA Cup fourth-round match. When asked about Rashford’s absence, Ten Hag simply stated that “he reported ill” and dismissed further questions as an internal matter.
The United squad had a week off after their match with Tottenham, and Rashford had returned for training but then traveled to Northern Ireland to join a friend. This is not the first time Rashford has been questioned for his off-field activities, as in the past he was reprimanded by Ten Hag for attending a nightclub after a game.
Rashford’s performance has also been on the decline, with only four goals in the 2023-24 season and a seven-month goal drought at Old Trafford.
