In a dramatic turn of events, Bergvall has decided to join Tottenham Hotspur instead of Barcelona after informing the Spanish giants of his decision. He is scheduled to undergo a medical with Tottenham on Friday following the closure of the January transfer window and will join the club in the summer after turning 18. The Swedish player visited Tottenham’s training ground before checking out Barcelona’s facilities.
Despite earlier reports suggesting a preference for Barcelona, Bergvall was persuaded by Tottenham to join them. It was initially reported that Djurgarden valued him at around £17m. Bergvall has already made his senior international debut for Sweden at just 17 years old and is considered one of Europe’s most promising young players.
He has previously been of interest to clubs such as Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United in 2022. The one-cap Sweden international visited all three clubs before completing a move to Djurgarden from Brommapojkarna in December 2022. Earlier, Brommapojkarna’s Sporting Director Peter Kisfaludy stated, “You have to remember that Lucas has been to Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich.”
