England to face intense Ireland match as Gareth Southgate learns Nations League opponents

The Three Lions have been drawn against Finland and Greece in League B2 for the upcoming group-stage fixtures scheduled from September to November. In the last edition of the Nations League, England finished at the bottom of League A3, failing to win any of their six matches and causing them to drop down.

Their main goal for the upcoming tournament is to secure automatic promotion by winning their group. England will also face the Republic of Ireland in the upcoming fixtures set to take place across international breaks in September, October, and November.

The Nations League finals are scheduled for the summer of 2025, which England will not be a part of. The team’s most recent competitive fixture against Ireland dates back to 1991, with their last four matches being friendlies.

Ranked third in the world by FIFA, England will be the favorites in League B2 as Ireland, Finland, and Greece are all outside the top 40. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have also been drawn against tough opponents in their respective leagues for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Spain was the last team to clinch the Nations League title by defeating Croatia on penalties in June last year.
