Man Utd manager Ten Hag promotes three young players to first-team training

Three promising Manchester United youngsters have been called up to train with the first team ahead of the Premier League clash against Aston Villa. The youngsters, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, and Sam Mather, underwent training with the first-team squad at the Trafford Training Centre.

It is uncertain whether coach Erik ten Hag intends to include them in the matchday squad or if he is giving them a taste of the intensity required for the senior set-up. Harry Amass, a 16-year-old left-back, has been a regular starter for Man Utd’s under-18s this season and impressed during their recent win over Arsenal in the Premier League Cup.

Sam Mather, a 19-year-old left-winger and FA Youth Cup winner in 2022, has also been in fine form, scoring four goals for the under-21s in a recent match against Norwich City. Toby Collyer, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder who joined Man Utd from Brighton in 2022, has trained with the first-team squad on multiple occasions, although he has yet to play in a competitive senior game.

Collyer is highly rated and is expected to make his competitive debut soon. Coach Mark Beard, who worked with Collyer in Brighton’s academy, praised his excellent attitude and work ethic, highlighting his potential as a top-class player.

Amass has joined Rochdale on loan but is allowed to train with Man Utd as part of his agreement. Collyer had joined the first team’s pre-season squad and made his debut during a match against Wrexham in San Diego, California.

Sam Murray, Collyer’s academy team-mate, also moved to Rochdale to aid the Greater Manchester side in their bid to return to League football. The three youngsters have shown impressive form, and their inclusion in the first-team training reflects their potential to contribute to the senior set-up.
