The German FA may have paved the way for Jurgen Klopp to take over as their national team manager after Rudi Voller, a staunch supporter of Klopp’s, extended his tenure as director until the 2026 World Cup.

Voller expressed his belief that Klopp is destined to take over the reins of the national team in an interview with Sky90, confidently remarking: “I do believe that Jogi Low can still do it for a while, but at some point it will be Jurgen Klopp.” This statement came months before Joachim Low announced his departure from the managerial position after a 15-year stint, culminating in a last-16 exit at the hands of England at Euro 2020, held in 2021. Low’s successor, Hansi Flick, was then dismissed in September of last year, making way for Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann’s future post-tournament remains uncertain as he contemplates a return to club management. His potential exit could pave the way for Klopp’s anticipated homecoming. The 56-year-old plans to take a sabbatical until 2025 once his stint at Liverpool ends this summer, after which he could work with Voller to take Germany into the 2026 World Cup.

Voller expressed his commitment towards the DFB: “In the past 14 months of my work, I have noticed that the responsible task at the DFB has grown more and more close to my heart every day… As director of the senior national team, I would like to use my experience to ensure that Germany’s most important football team is successful again, but also beyond the home European Championships this summer.”
