England Football Matches to Clash with Over 7,000 Summer Weddings

The summer wedding season in England is expected to clash with the national football team’s matches, potentially affecting over 7,000 weddings. According to research, the most significant clash is anticipated to occur when England faces Denmark on Thursday, 20th June, during the European competition group stage. Statistician Ed Jefferson used government data to identify the days with the highest wedding frequencies during previous England matches. This analysis revealed the potential number of weddings that could coincide with England’s upcoming games.

As part of Snickers’ promotion, one lucky couple has the chance to win a football screening room if their wedding day coincides with a key England game. A survey commissioned by Snickers found that 80 percent of couples getting married this summer are concerned about a potential clash with an England match. Booking a wedding on a key matchday was cited as a significant concern, with many seeing it as an undesirable outcome. The research also highlighted some amusing scenarios, such as fans leaving a game early only to miss an equalizing goal or sneaking away to watch the event during a wedding.

Kerry Cavanaugh from Mars Wrigley emphasized the relatable experience of “scoring an own goal,” likening it to the feeling of realizing a mistake, such as arriving at the wrong venue or missing a crucial moment due to other obligations.
