He has reportedly engaged in discussions with co-owner Amanda Staveley to strike an agreement that would involve Dan Ashworth joining Manchester United. Ashworth, the sporting director, is currently on gardening leave and expresses a desire to switch clubs.

Ratcliffe aims to bring about changes at United on and off the pitch. Omar Berrada has recently taken on the role of chief executive at Old Trafford, and Jason Wilcox is expected to become the new technical director.

Following his acquisition of a stake in the club, Ratcliffe has identified Ashworth as a priority target and tasked him with overseeing football operations. United has been in talks with Newcastle since February to settle a compensation fee for Ashworth’s departure, and it appears that Ratcliffe has taken matters into his own hands to expedite the negotiations.

According to The Times, Ratcliffe met with Staveley last week to accelerate talks between the clubs. Negotiations are ongoing, with Newcastle currently standing firm on a compensation package of around £15 million.

United is reluctant to pay such a fee for a sporting director, yet Ashworth’s contract with Newcastle extends until 2026, giving the club the upper hand in negotiations. Ratcliffe is eager to finalize a deal before the summer transfer window to enable Ashworth to play a pivotal role in their immediate transfer recruitment.
