Palmer has emerged as Chelsea’s most important player since leaving Manchester City last summer, scoring 23 goals and registering 13 assists in all competitions this season. Palmer’s standout performance includes scoring four goals as Chelsea thrashed Everton in midweek, becoming the first Blues player to score two hat-tricks in one Premier League season. Chelsea is planning to open talks with Palmer’s camp over a new deal before he represents England at Euro 2024.

Although Palmer is currently tied down until 2030, Stamford Bridge chiefs are reportedly keen to ensure that his earnings reflect his importance to the club. Currently earning around £80,000 per week, this amount pales in comparison to many of his Chelsea team-mates. Raheem Sterling, for instance, earns around £325,000 per week, making £245,000 more than Palmer, despite scoring just eight goals all season.

It is reported that several performance-related bonuses could be included in Palmer’s new deal to ensure his continued stellar performance for the club. Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City, who deemed him surplus to requirements last summer, Palmer has quickly become a household name at the club, having been sparingly used by Pep Guardiola during his time at the Etihad Stadium. Earlier this week, Guardiola, when quizzed on whether he regretted selling Palmer, was quick to defend his decision to let him join Chelsea.

He described Palmer as an exceptional player, confirming that the young talent yearned for more playing minutes which he is now receiving at Chelsea. Guardiola expressed his happiness for Palmer’s success and praised his incredible potential.
