Man Utd advised to hire manager with ‘star qualities’ to win Premier League

The Dutchman’s position as manager at United has been the subject of speculation, given the team’s current position in the Premier League. They are in seventh place and were eliminated from the Champions League group stages this season. New minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not publicly backed Ten Hag, leading to questions about his future. Yorke, a former player from the club’s famous 1998/99 treble winning season, believes Zinedine Zidane is the perfect person to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Zidane, who has had successful tenures at Real Madrid, is seen by Yorke as someone who could generate belief in the club to win another league title. Zidane has not managed a club since leaving Real Madrid for the second time in 2021. During his time at Real, he managed iconic names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos and won three consecutive European crowns. Yorke believes Zidane’s experience in managing a club like Real would be crucial if he were to take the reins at United.

Yorke also disapproves of the idea of current England boss Gareth Southgate being a productive appointment for United, stating that managing a club of United’s size is a different ball game. Zidane reportedly turned down the opportunity to manage the USA after the 2022 World Cup and has been linked with a move to PSG. He is yet to publicly comment on the prospect of heading to Manchester, despite speculation about Ten hag departing. Recent events have seen some tension between Ten hag and the press, with the manager appearing angry at a recent press conference and clashing with journalists.
