The Reds appear poised to appoint Slot as their new manager, as current boss Jurgen Klopp is set to depart Anfield this summer after nearly nine years in the role. Michael Edwards, who previously spent over 11-and-a-half years at Liverpool and served as the club’s sporting director for half of that time, has been persuaded by the Reds’ owners Fenway Sports Group to become their CEO of football.

The 44-year-old is now overseeing Liverpool’s football operations and is actively involved in the search for a new manager. Edwards has also been scouting talent on the pitch and is showing interest in Pacho, a player who came through the Independiente academy in Ecuador and joined Royal Antwerp at the beginning of 2022. Pacho, a defender who has won 10 caps for Ecuador and was part of the country’s squad at the 2022 World Cup, is said to possess the desired profile for Liverpool.

It remains to be seen whether the player will be tempted by a move to the Premier League. Liverpool had been expected to appoint Sporting manager Ruben Amorim as their next boss but have now shifted their focus to Feyenoord manager Slot. It seems that both Slot and Edwards could face a major rebuild at Anfield.

Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes were dealt a blow when they were defeated 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park. With speculation surrounding the futures of aging stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, this summer could mark a pivotal moment for a team that achieved a great deal under the guidance of their departing manager.
