Tottenham’s target in talks with Serie A giants, leading to potential hefty expenses

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly as they look to overhaul their defense. However, they may have to pay a significant amount in January to prevent Kelly from joining either AC Milan or Juventus. Both Italian clubs can sign him to a pre-contract agreement this month before his contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of June. Although Tottenham have offered Kelly a new deal, they could still lose him on a free transfer.

Kelly is a versatile left-footed defender who can play in the center and at left-back. Despite the return of Micky van de Ven from injury and the addition of Radu Dragusin in January, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may still want to strengthen the position by signing Kelly. However, due to league regulations, Spurs cannot sign Kelly on a pre-contract deal given that he plays in the same country. Therefore, they may need to pay a transfer fee in the January window to secure his services.

When Kelly’s contract expires, he will have the opportunity to choose from several Premier League and European teams. Tottenham have also made additions to their squad this month, including the loan signing of former Chelsea attacker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Postecoglou has had a significant say in Spurs’ transfer business, with the objective of strengthening the team. He expressed his satisfaction with the arrival of two players and acknowledged the challenges of completing deals in the January transfer window.

Overall, Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Lloyd Kelly as part of their defensive overhaul could potentially involve a transfer fee in January to prevent him from joining Italian clubs. The club is determined to strengthen their defense despite the return of injured players and recent signings. Postecoglou is pleased with the progress made in the transfer window and believes the new additions will have an important role to play in the team.
