Amorim is the strong favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer, after impressing as head coach at Sporting CP. According to Portuguese publication Jornal Noticias, the 39-year-old has listed a trio of Sporting stars that he wants to bring to Anfield: defenders Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande, and midfielder Martin Hjulmand. All three players have excelled under Amorim at Sporting, where the team is currently four points clear of second-placed Benfica in the Primeira Liga.

In 2022, Erik ten Hag spent the summer trying to recruit players he had a previous association with. This included the unsuccessful pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who Ten Hag had prioritized as his No. 1 target. Despite Ten Hag’s success with these players at Sporting, it is uncertain whether this would transition positively at Anfield.

Liverpool will likely have their own targets to propose to Amorim, who may have some success in recruiting at least one of his targets as a compromise. However, Amorim will aim to avoid having his first transfer window judged as negatively as Ten Hag’s.
